Taylor Mackenzie got another second place in Sundays 24 lap race at Silverstone to make it a hat trick of podiums to round off a great weekend for Bathams Racing. Following a pair of second places in Saturdays two races, Mackenzie third second place for the team in todays race consolidates his overall second place in the championship with a gap of just 3 points from the leader.
Michael Rutter made a significant break through with the set up of his bike and improved his lap times enough to improve on his finishing positions from Saturday, to come through from 16th on the grid to finish 9th whilst posting lap times comparable to riders in the top 5.
Junior Supersport rider Harris Beech also made a big improvement in the set up of his bike to come from 24th on the grid to finish 16th position in race 1,and a brilliant P12 in race 2, improving his lap times by over one second per lap. He was also the first finisher using a Yamaha YZF-R3.
Rutter (P9): “Obviously I’m still not happy with finishing in 9th position, but I am over the moon with the set up changes we made to my bike overnight. I really must thanks the guys in the garage for working so hard to go through the whole bike for me. I felt for the first time that I had a bike which I could race with. The lap times were there to be higher up the finishing order, but starting back on row 6 was always going to be a tall order to get into the top 5”.
Mackenzie (P2): “I’m thrilled with the way that this weekend has gone, and especially after an accident in my motorhome last night with a kitchen knife that meant a late night trip to the hospital for 6 stiches in my right index finger, which I use a lot for braking. I felt most of the stitches burst when I hit the brakes for the first corner, so after that I just stopped worrying about it. My bike was spot on all weekend, and I’m just glad to get the first meeting out of the way with some solid results and be in the hunt for race wins.”
